Dr Alberto Esquenazi serves as the John Otto Haas Chair of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Albert Einstein Medical Center, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is Chief Clinical Officer of Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation. He is Director of the Gait and Motion Analysis Laboratory, Clinical Director of the Regional Amputee Center, and Chief of the Prosthetic and Orthotic Clinic. Dr Esquenazi is Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
Dr Esquenazi received his medical degree in medicine and surgery from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in Mexico City. He completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Temple University/MossRehab in Philadelphia, and a fellowship in gait analysis and prosthetic research at MossRehab.
Dr Esquenazi’s research focusses on spasticity, gait analysis, limb prosthetics, orthotics and pioneering applications of robotics and technology for rehabilitation. Dr Esquenazi has published over 140 articles and book chapters. His research and clinical work have led him to speak at national and international events. He serves on the editorial boards for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) The Journal of Injury, Function and Rehabilitation, the Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation, Rehabilitación (Journal of the Spanish Society of PM&R), Medical Journal of the Sociedade Portuguesa de Medicina Fisica e de Rehabilitacao and the Korean Journal of PM&R.
Dr Esquenazi is a member of several national, international, professional, educational, and research societies and review panels. He is a Board member of the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association. He is past President of the American Academy of PM&R and recipient of the Frank Krusen Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as other prestigious national and international awards for his innovative clinical and research work and educational efforts. He has repeatedly been recognized among ‘Top Doctors’ in Philadelphia.
